Shibori is the ancient Japanese art of folding, pleating, tying and sometimes stitching fabric prior to immersion dying.  I have taken this tradition and combined it with modern dyes to create beautiful colours and patterns on silk, creating elegant scarves to compliment todays fashions.

This scarf has been pleated, tied and dyed several times to give a mix of oranges, pinks and burgundy on a white background.

Pure silk crepe de chine.

Silk Scarves

I recommend a hand wash as silk can easily become abraded in a washing machine, especially when washed with other heavier fabrics.  The dyes I use on silk are the same as those used on wool which means that all the colour is taken up into the fabric and the dye bath is clear when finished.  As with wool, different types of water and detergent may cause some minor bleeding of colours, so keep strong colours away from light ones when washing.

Silk is so lightweight that it dries very quickly, even when wrung out by hand.  It does have a tendency to hold the creases, so you can iron it while slightly damp, but keep the iron on the silk setting to maintain the lustre.
